We are honoured to share that Kara Technologies has been awarded the Spark Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good at the 2024 New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.
This award recognises our commitment to accessibility and innovation, specifically through our use of digital sign language avatars to make information more inclusive for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. At Kara, we believe that technology should serve everyone, and we are proud that our work is making a meaningful difference.
In a powerful moment that reflected our values, our CEO Arash Tayebi insisted that our acceptance speech be delivered in a way that truly represented our mission. Grace, a member of our team who is Deaf, delivered the speech in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) – the first time a speech has ever been presented in sign language at the Hi-Tech Awards. It was a moment of pride not just for Kara, but for accessibility and inclusion in our wider industry.
